Sigma Chi & The Children's Miracle Network
CMN was introduced to Sigma Chi by Significant Sig Merlin Olsen, and at the Fraternity’s Leadership Training Workshop in 1992 it was announced that CMN had been designated as Sigma Chi’s “recommended” philanthropy fraternity-wide. In the decade since Sigma Chi has raised in excess of $3.0 million for CMN. Last year alone, Sigma Chi donated $560,000 to CMN, of which some $125,000 was raised by an event similar to the one we launched in 2003 for Orlando: an annual charity golf tournament sponsored by Sigma Chi’s Sigma Chi’s St. Louis Alumni Chapter.
What is the Children’s Miracle Network?
Since CMN’s founding in 1983, it has been CMN’s goal to help children by supporting better health care for kids. Today more than 170 hospitals throughout North America – and two here in Central Florida -- specializing in treating children make up CMN. In just 20 years, CMN has helped raise more than $2.0 billion for its member hospitals. In 2003 alone, CMN raised $289,000,000! More information is available on CMN’s website at www.gocmn.org.
Does money raised for CMN in Central Florida stay in Central Florida?
CMN is unique in that 100% of the money raised locally goes to the participating CMN hospital(s) here. In our case those are Shands Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida and the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women. More than a quarter million children turn to these two hospitals for care annually. Last year, CMN in greater Orlando donated in excess of $1.0 million to these two area hospitals.
